Deep Sky Alpha is the world’s first cross-technology hub for carbon removal innovation and commercialization. It provides a unique platform for direct air capture companies to test their technologies while also creating jobs and boosting the local economy. BBA tackled the project’s detailed engineering and designed a site to accommodate multiple air capture units with unique requirements. Deep Sky is using this facility to scale up into commercial carbon removal plants and develop a sustainable business model through carbon removal credit sales. Built for long-term impact, it was to be open to the public in the spring of 2025, fostering education and climate awareness, positioning itself as a key force in fighting climate change.
Seen as a forward-thinking initiative, this project stood out for its ambitious design, addressing the complex demands of testing carbon capture technologies under varying pressures. Designed as an innovation hub with future public and academic access, it addresses a critical gap in climate solutions. Its potential impact and technical ambition were highly regarded by the jury.
