The BMO Centre Expansion has quickly become a recognizable landmark in Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District. The building’s sweeping form captures the Stampede spirit as it wraps around a new outdoor gathering space and creates a focal point for cultural events year-round. By doubling the existing event space, the expanded BMO Centre positions Calgary on the international stage as a top-tier convention destination. Development Manager CMLC and owner Calgary Stampede envisioned an elevated guest experience and strong integration with outdoor space. ACEC member firms RJC Engineers (Structural) and Stantec (Architect of Record, Mechanical and Electrical) collaborated to bring that vision to life.
The jury viewed this as a timely and impactful project that overcame pandemic-era challenges to leave a lasting legacy. The expanded BMO Centre is a visually stunning, LEED-focused facility that has already hosted over 500 events, significantly boosting Calgary’s economy and cultural scene. Structural engineering supported bold architectural ambitions, and the project created measurable job growth.
